South Africa: Two men were arrested by Reaction Officers following a robbery in Parkgate – KZN earlier today (Sunday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance from an emotional 55 year old man at approximately 09:44 requesting assistance at his residence. According to the caller, his 21 year old drug addicted son was in the process of robbing his mother of her Huawei cellphone.
On arrival, Reaction Officers were informed that the suspect had fled. Officers circulated his description via two way radio when the suspect was spotted entering a bush along Old Main Road in Ottawa – KZN.
RUSA Members surrounded the bush and kept observation.
They witnessed the man selling the cell phone to an unknown male. As Reaction Officers approached, both men fled in different directions. The suspect who purchased the cellphone was immediately arrested.
The stolen item was recovered in his possession. The 21 year old was arrested by Reaction Officers minutes later. During an interview, he confirmed that he sold the cellphone for R30. The money was to be used to purchase Crack Cocaine. His parents confirmed that he had been tormenting them for cash to purchase drugs and eventually resorted to stealing household items which he sold to support his addiction.
Both suspects were detained at the Verulam SAPS.
On the same day, one man was also missing, and the RUSA team is trying to locate 37 year old Rinaldo Andre Pillay (pictured).
Pillay is a resident of Parbhani Road in Merebank – KZN. He left his place of employment on Friday (02/12/2022) in Pinetown – KZN, at approximately 19:00 and cannot be located since.
He was dressed in a black shirt and blue jeans. His cell phone is switched off, and attempts to contact him are unsuccessful. A missing person report was filed with reference number 228/12/2022 at the Wentworth SAPS.
