South Africa is celebrating October as National Marine Month. For which, the City of Cape Town has organised several events. The city has asked the residents to participate in the celebrations and events to commemorate the Marine Month.
The City of Cape Town asked the citizens to regulate the climate, keep the drinking water clean and help them by giving feedback over the work done for the cleanliness of the marine and coastal areas in the city. The city officials expressed and people aware that the most of the oxygen they breathe is generated in the ocean.
Furthermore, the City of Cape Town has decided to celebrate the importance of marine conservation and take action to protect the oceans. To initiate this, there are some simple ways with which they can together achieve the success, such as:
- By reducing the consumption of plastic
- By making informed seafood choices
- By disposing chemicals properly
- Choosing green detergents and household cleaners, than any other.
The City of Cape Town, officials also asked the people to share with them a report of what they are doing to protect the marine environment. They will then consider their efforts and acknowledge them at the greater level.
“Let’s work together to keep the oceans healthy for future generations,” said the City.
National Marine Month
South Africa celebrates National Marine Month in October. It aims to raise awareness about the marine and coastal environments of the country. The celebratory month also promote the sustainable use and conservation of the resources.
However, the second week of the October is celebrated as National Marine Week, which is led by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism. The awareness is spread for the benefit of all the present and future generations.
Notably, South Africa’s different climatic zones meet with its different biodiversities, also the agricultural and economic activities. These climatic conditions are shaped by the availability of one of the scarcest resources, namely the fresh water.
The month-long celebrations of National Marine Month consists of various programmes and events, that are observed in different parts of the country, involving the Western Cape, Northern Cape, Southern Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
