South Africa, KwaZulu Natal: Two suspects directly linked to six murders and currently being investigated for several other killings have been arrested in a SAPS/RUSA Operation in Newark – KwaZulu Natal this morning (Tuesday).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance from the SAPS Durban Dog Unit requesting aerial support for the High Risk Operation. The RUSA R44 Helicopter lifted off at approximately 09:04 and routed to KwaDabeka – KwaZulu Natal, where the Pilot & Crew attended a briefing with the Investigating Officer.

Reaction Officers were informed that the suspects were extremely dangerous and armed and would most likely target the aircraft in an attempt to flee.

Detectives from Newark SAPS, the Umhlali and Durban K9 Dog Unit mobilised to the target location in a rural area. The RUSA Helicopter lifted off with the Investigating Officer and flew low level over the Tugela River as Officers from various units converged on Bulwer Farm.

The helicopter then climbed to 300 feet and hovered over the suspect’s home. Officers breached the property and took down the occupant. The Investigating Officer seated in the helicopter positively identified the man as the wanted murderer.

A RUSA Officer in the aircraft noticed a white VW Polo concealed behind a house between the Tugela River and a green belt. The vehicle was identified as sought after, and the information was relayed to the ground crew.

The house was surrounded, and the second suspect was found concealing himself inside the dwelling. The Investigating Officer once again identified the second occupant as a sought after suspect wanted for murders.

Both suspects were taken into custody without incident.
