St. Kitts and Nevis celebrated its 42nd Independence Day on Sept 19, 2025. The celebration conveyed the message of unity, progress and resilience. Citizens remembered the continuous journey of building a stronger nation for future generations.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew highlighted the new projects. This mainly considered the infrastructural projects such as the main road in St. Peter’s. It also included modern roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems, as this brings independence to life in practical ways. He said that these projects, make daily living safer and more efficient while supporting the economy.
The government of St. Kitts and Nevis emphasised its achievements made over the past three years, which includes:
- Increase in the minimum wage,
- The introduction of pensions for Government Auxiliary employees,
- Climate-smart housing initiatives, and
- Major upgrades to water and energy systems.
Drew also mentioned about the new healthcare and education facilities, such as a modern hospital, schools, and sports complexes. These are also under development, and the government is fulfilling its commitment to progress.
PM Drew acknowledged the challenges considering rising global costs, climate change, and geopolitical uncertainties. He urged citizens to face these difficulties with courage and unity. The true progress requires cooperation and mutual respect.
He said that no nation can endure if each citizen sees themselves as separate from the whole. He stated that together they are stronger.
The Independence Day 2025 followed the theme, ‘Perpetual Progress, a Sustainable Future in View’, and reflected throughout the speech.
Prime Minister Drew outlined a vision for a nation where every child has access to quality education, families living in safe and affordable homes, and renewable energy powers communities. He encouraged citizens to continue striving for fairness, dignity, and opportunity for all.
The celebration also honoured national heroes with awards recognizing contributions in education, healthcare, business, religion, law, sports, and community service. These honourees were praised as proof that heroism and service to country will remain alive.
As the nation looks towards the future, the message was clear that, Independence is a shared responsibility. With unity, resilience, and commitment, St. Kitts and Nevis will continue its journey of progress for generations to come.
