St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew announced the opening of St. Peter’s Main Road. He highlighted the completion of the road which was a project of the labour government and was previously considered neglected by the Unity government.
PM Drew stated that St. Peter’s Main Road is a project worth $30 million and was neglected by the Unity. The main road will now open officially, this Wednesday. The project is an investment in the people, the community and the development of the nation.
Reportedly, the St. Peter’s Main Road is being rehabilitated in St. Kitts and Nevis. The rehabilitation work is receiving direct foreign investment for a separate tourism and heritage project at Fort Thomas.
The rehabilitation work for St. Peter’s Main Road started in August 2023 and is a long-awaited project of the St. Kitts and Nevis. The ongoing project from the last two years covers a distance of 6.2 kilometres. The road begins from the RLB International Airport and goes to St. Peter’s covering the communities which were previously sidelined.
Considering this, the Ministry of Public Utilities of the St. Kitts and Nevis expressed that they have been working diligently on the road project and now it is finally completing. In last three months, the authorities have also shared regular updates on the progress of the project which has been made in the rehabilitation project.
Prime Minister Drew made a statement during the ‘Roundtable’ special interview held on May 31, and explained that the rehabilitation project is about more than just repairing the damaged roads. He stated that it is not just throwing down asphalt, this is a comprehensive plan to transform the road network so that St. Peter’s become able to grow.
Drew added that the project includes infrastructure developments such as the addition of roundabouts, upgrading drainage systems, building sidewalks, and introducing new road networks that would benefit the community of St. Peter’s.
During the Roundtable, PM Drew also addressed the concerns expressed by some members of the public regarding the pace of the extensive infrastructural project. He said that the project has completed on time. They are creating a whole infrastructure that can support not just for the present but for the future as well.
