St. Kitts and Nevis is set to launch its first-ever MRI unit at JNF General Hospital, with Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew announcing the upcoming facility. The introduction of the MRI unit is envisioned to improve the medical services for the federation’s citizens.
Prime Minister Drew has shared an official post related to it and marked it as a great achievement. PM Drew confirmed this during the National Address held on July 07, 2025.
The update states that the first ever MRI Unit is soon going to be launched at JNF General Hospital, “At JNF General Hospital, the Federation’s first-ever MRI unit is now in its final phase of installation.”
With the announcement of MRI Unit to be launched soon, PM Drew assured the residents that now onwards there will be no need to travel to another country or place to get diagnosed, “Soon, no Kittitian or Nevisian will need to travel abroad for basic diagnostic imaging.”
MRI Unit – transforming healthcare
Considering this achievement, Prime Minister Drew has expressed his thoughts and said that they have to wait no longer now, and don’t have to fly out to any other place. As they are transforming healthcare right there at home.
According to Dr. Drew, the people of St. Kitts and Nevis deserve access to the world class diagnostic facilities and as a government of the federation they are proud to deliver such facilities which are for the welfare of the nation and its people. He is happy to see the progress and said this is what progress looks like.
Previous Update on MRI Unit by PM Drew
Last year, in October 2024 PM Drew updated everyone on the construction of MRI Unit at the JNF General Hospital. With its completion, the hospital will be able to provide better healthcare facilities to the members of the community, as machines are installed and will start functioning soon.
Earlier, prime minister Drew highlighted that the Ministry of Health was working hard to make sure that the community can access the facilities which were not previously available. The Health Ministry will be responsible of the healthcare stakeholders to constantly upgrade the facilities.
PM Drew has been constantly sharing updates related to the MRI Unit by sharing glimpses from the construction site progress. The St. Kitts and Nevis Health Ministry has been working hard to make sure that the people get access to every health facility here in the nation only, and to accomplish that they have been making several new advancements to the sector.
Upgradations in Health Ministry
In the last two years, PM Drew and his administration have introduced many new modernizations to hospitals across the nation. Some of the new developments include the eye clinic which was stocked with new equipment under the Prime Minister’s leadership.
It is also to be recalled that the Ministry of Health procured Dialysis machines for the benefit of the patients who had to previously travel outside the country to get access to this facility.
The Prime Minister was also proud to announce another similar development in the JNF General Hospital. He introduced multiple ultrasound machines and endoscopes at JNF Hospital. He also highlighted that this is the largest amount of machinery and equipment that the hospital has ever had in its history.
