South Africa: Politician Mmusi Maimane has shared a video on his ‘X’ account (formerly known as twitter). The video shows a fight between a teacher and a student inside the classroom.
Mmusi Maimane is a leader of the opposition party ‘Build One South Africa’ (BOSA) and was also a former leader of South Africa’s opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) political party. he was also a former leader of the DA in Johannesburg City Council and was has also remained spokesperson for DA National.
In the viral video the students and the teacher can be seen clearly attacking each other with the table and chair of the classroom. The video is originally shared by the south African media influencer “Ke Star” on ‘X’ and captioned, “I don’t know what went wrong here, but this is totally wrong.”
The leader of BOSA, has shared the video recently today on May 04, 2024 and posted it with the caption, “We have a discipline crisis in our schools. Teachers are not safe in the classroom.”
Reportedly, the video has been viewed for 119.4K times and received 887 likes and 227 comments. It has been saved by 41 users and has been reposted 220 times.
As per the sources, the school in which the incident has happened is suspected to be ‘Glenvista High School’ which is in Johannesburg, South Africa. As a social media user Sizwe Nhlapo has shared another video considering the similar situation in the comment section of the post shared by Mmusi Maimane.
The video is going viral rapidly on ‘X’ platform. Following this many have shared their opinion and views, some of them are.
An ‘X’ user, named Rodney commented, “So sad to watch this video. Schools are no longer centres for learning, children are practising violent acts on adults. We need to protect teachers; they were told not to hit learners and now learners are hitting teachers.”
Another person with the username, Salasa has wrote, “As much as the teacher was wrongfully attacked, he should have restrained himself from using the chair. That was uncalled for…”

Another social media user Queen M expressed, “Yes because our constitution decided to give children the same rights as adults. Everyone is free to do anything in this country as they please and there are no consequences! I’m older than you Mmusi & we were taught respect for elders, especially teachers!!”
A person named Lepogo contradicted the politician’s statement and wrote, “How did you make sense of an Old Man Fighting with a boy, who fits to being his own child and then blame it on the child being a danger to the teacher? When the old man is the one in the video clearly throwing the chair to the boy let alone to be at a stand-off with a boy.”
The incident is still need to be investigated as it is raging like a fire and there a need of knowing who the real culprit is.
