Zambia: A three-year-old girl of Barlastone area in Lusaka was mauled by five dogs after which she died. The toddler succumbed to her death due to extensive injuries on her body. The incident happened in the late hours of the morning at around 11:00.
The victim has been identified as Tumelo Chikote. She was accompanying her five year old elder brother in playing in one of the neighbours’ houses. The two children were playing at their friend’s house in the Barlastone area when they were attacked by dogs.
The police officials, who are investigating the incident have revealed that all the dogs got ahold of the younger girl. The officials have shared that one of the female neighbours was  able to rescue the boy and bring him to safety.
After she had saved the boy, she asked the other members of the community and neighbourhood to help the three-year-old. The victim had sustained deep wounds due to dog bites on her neck and private parts.
After the members of the community were able to bring the situation to calm, the victim, Tumelo Chikote was rushed to the hospital. Upon arrival at the Matero Level 1 Hospital the three year old was pronounced dead by the medical practitioners.
Afterwards, the victim’s body was taken to the University Teaching Hospital mortuary for postmortem. The owner of the dogs that attacked the three year old has been arrested by the police officials.
He has been identified as 43 year old Chanda Bwalya and is awaiting to be charged. Meanwhile the dogs have been taken in by Lusaka City Council officials who visited the scene.
Police officers were informed that when the mother of the two children goes for work, they always go to play with their friends at the same house.
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale shared the details of the incident in a media statement. The members of the community have been traumatized by the incident and have hoped for strength for the family to deal with this unimaginable loss.
