Dominica celebrated the World Tourism Day on Sept 27, 2025 under the theme ‘Tourism and Sustainable Transformation’ and highlighted the importance of tourism in fostering global understanding and promoting sustainable practices.
During the celebration, Tourism Minister Denise Charles-Pemberton said that on World Tourism Day, they reaffirmed Dominica’s position as a resilient and innovative tourism destination.
She said that tourism is not just an industry, it is a national mission that empowers communities, sustains livelihoods and promotes the unique identity of the nature island.
According to Denise Charles, Dominica has emerged stronger from the challenges of the global pandemic, in recent years.
The Tourism Minister of Dominica further stated that the Government is fulfilling its commitment to expand air access, improving infrastructure and advancing sustainable practices which is now bearing fruit.
Notably, Dominica will be certainly more accessible with the new services, such as:
- Weekly flight services by the United Airlines
- Daily Flights by American Airlines
- Also, the expanded air routes through Contour Airlines and Caribbean Airlines
Pemberton further added that the extension and grooving of the Douglas-Charles Airport’s runway is a landmark achievement, that will enhance safety and will prepare the island for larger aircraft upon completion of the island’s international airport.
She emphasised that the Cruise Tourism continues to thrive, by generating opportunities for vendors, tour operators, farmers and cultural performers across the island.
Furthermore, Aqua Tourism is supported by Dominica’s pristine waters and world-class diving, and whale watching is solidifying the reputation as the Caribbean’s premier eco-marine destination.
Tourism Minister Charles Pemberton also indicated that the cultural tourism is also being promoted with the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF), Dominica’s Bouyon Music and other signature events that will energise the youth, foster pride and attract thousands of visitors each year.
She strongly believes that together, these pillars of air, cruise, marine and cultural tourism create a diversified product that benefits every person living in Dominica. She mentioned that tourism in Dominica is being powered by collaboration between government, the private sector and cultural groups and the diaspora.
Tourism Minister Denise Charles quoted that, “Our mission is clear. To secure Dominica’s place as a World-Class Destination rooted in authenticity, sustainability and shared prosperity. Happy World Tourism Day.”
Denise also confirmed that through fiscal incentives, training and strategic policies, the government has ensured the gains of tourism to reach every household. As they celebrate World Tourism Day, Dominica stands proudly on a path from recovery to renewal, and now to resilience.
