Bentiu, South Sudan: Governor H.E Dr Joseph Manytuil Wejang on Wednesday met with High Level Mission of the UNOCHA Donor Support Group, who visited Unity State in order to understand OCHA’s work in Unity State, develop an understanding in the context to help and continue supporting the people of Unity State.
The meeting put more emphasis on humanitarian assistance to flood affected populations and how the state government and U.N. Agencies should collaborate in tackling the issues of flood mitigation and road connectivity to facilitate relief assistance to the IDPs.
In his keynote remarks, H.E. Dr Joseph Manytuil Wejang commended the U.N. Agencies and International Organizations for their firm cooperation and extraordinary support to the people of Unity State during this catastrophic humanitarian situation.
Governor Manytuil outlined challenges that need urgent intervention from U.N. Agencies and Partners, especially the devastating flood and food items to the IDPS, and added that without road connectivity, the relief assistance would not reach the targeted beneficiaries.
H.E. Dr Joseph Manytuil Wejang said that the State government, in collaboration with Humanitarian Agencies, proposed a new lifeline road that will be more sustainable to connect Bentiu with Mayom County and Bharelgazal regions.
H.E., the governor, stressed the importance of the new proposed road that will enable to secure a Corridor out of Bentiu but also guarantees mean to deliver humanitarian aid and pieces of machinery for the Clearing River from Juba to Bentiu.
The UNOCHA County Representative, Joseph Inganji, appreciated H.E. Governor Dr Joseph Manytuil Wejang for the good cooperation with U.N. Agencies and facilitation of relief assistance to the IDPs.
Joseph Inganji said the visit of the High Level Mission of the UNOCHA Donor Support Group is to assess the humanitarian situation and meet with IDPs Communities, and develop the mechanism to support the State government’s plans to provide relief assistance to the IDPs.
