Mauritius: The United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator, Mrs Lisa Simrique Singh, paid a courtesy call to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, this morning at the State House in Réduit.
In a statement, the UN Resident Coordinator highlighted that the meeting with the President was fruitful, and discussions pertained to several areas of mutual collaboration and cooperation, particularly in terms of new priorities as regards the Republic of Mauritius.
The UN team, she underlined, has been active and present in Mauritius for decades, and currently, the issue of working closely and in a coordinated manner, particularly in terms of all the global complexities such as the rising prices of food and climate change, is at the forefront.
“It is very important for us, therefore, to ensure that we take into account the strategic priorities of the country, especially in these moments where the UN is in the phase of preparing its next multi-annual cooperation framework, which will anchor how collaboratively we work together with the Government,” Mrs Simrique Singh pointed out.
Furthermore, the UN Resident Coordinator stressed that discussions as regards areas of collaboration would be ongoing as discussions with key partners, including the private sector, among others, have already started.
“We hope to culminate in a document that is really focused and very innovative so that we are able to tap into the key priorities of the country and assist it further,” she indicated.
