Zambia: The Police Force in Kitwe has arrested a 31-year-old suspect Lewis Mwansa in connection with his nephew’s murder due to a disagreement over food. The uncle allegedly attacked the victim till he was in a critical state to the point that he had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Unfortunately, the man in question died whole he was receiving treatment at he hospital. The Police officers have identified the victim as 28-year-old, Previn Kapambwe.
The victim allegedly died whilst being attended to by medical doctors at Kitwe Teaching Hospital.
The confirmation about the incident came from Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer Pethias Siandenge. He disclosed that on May 19, 2025 at 01:00hrs, Mindolo East Police Post received a report of the alleged murder from the landlady Rose Mutati.
The 40 year old woman was the owner of one the houses in New Plots Mindolo North township Kitwe. She informed he police that Previn Kapambwe a tenant at the said abode was unlawfully wounded by his uncle Lewis Mwansa, who works as a security guard of the same building.
According to the landlady, on May 18, 2025 at about 19:00 hrs, the now deceased victim was drinking opaque Chibuku beer with Michael Mwansa and Lewis Mwansa his uncles at some tavern within Mindolo North New Plots area.
Later the three went back home, where the suspect got into a fight with the victim over food. After this, Micheal Mwansa went to the toilet and when he came back, he found that his nephew Previn Kapambwe was laying down unconscious and was bleeding profusely from a cut on the head caused by an unknown instrument.
The suspect then ran away from the scene and the victim was rushed to Kitwe Teaching Hospital for treatment where he later died.
The suspect was later apprehended and detained in custody to assist the Police with investigations and a docket for murder has since been opened. The body of the deceased is currently in the mortuary and is awaiting postmortem.
