Vice President Saulos Chilima, 9 others found dead in plane crash

The Vice President of Malawi, Saulos Chilima has died in a plane crash while he was travelling from Lilongwe to Mzuzu

Malawi: The Vice President of Malawi, Saulos Chilima has died in a plane crash while he was travelling from Lilongwe to Mzuzu. The Vice President of the country was travelling in a Malawi defence Force Aircraft with nine other members forming a part of his delegation.

The Malawi Defence Force Aircraft which was travelling from Lilongwe to Mzuzu International Airport fell off the radar at some point during the journey. More than 24 hours after the plane was supposed to land, the officers of the Defence Force found the crashed aircraft.

The aircraft was found Nthungwa Forest Reserve in Chikangawa.

The officials have confirmed that they did not recover any survivors from the aircraft. Along with Vice President Saulos Chilima, the plane was also boarded by nine other members of his delegation.

The other victims of the plane crash have been identified and listed by the officials of the defence force.

The President of the country received the final remains of the country’s Vice President. The President extended his sincere condolences to the people of the nation and the family of the Vice President.

President Lazarus Chakwera also highlighted that he understands that the country is going through a hard time with this death. President Chakwera praised and applauded the deceased soul for his dedication and commitment to the welfare of the nation.

The president said that he was honored to have the support of Vice President Chilima during the last four years of his office. President Chakwera acknowledged that the Malawi Defence Force made significant efforts with their partners for the search and rescue mission for the missing persons

He also thanked all former Heads of State for supporting them in this trying and difficult time for tha nation. The neighbouring nations and friends of Malawi have been extending their deepest condolences on the death of Vice President Chilima.

The President of Zambia highlighted that he is with his Malawian counterpart in this trying time. The President has announced that they will observe a period of mourning for the next twenty one days starting on Tuesday,

Through this initiative, the government wants to honor the life and legacy of the deceased statesman and remarkable politician.
