South Africa: Western Cape has gained its momentum in Asia, as Wesgro has actively expanded its export opportunities in the Asian market.
Wesgro is the official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape, marketing at the global level. The organisation has recently participated in the targeted engagements across the multiple sectors in China.
Reportedly, these efforts by Wesgro will focus mainly on showcasing the diverse range of export products, that Cape Town and the Western Cape has to offer. This highlighted the reputation of the region as a key global trading hub.
As per the sources, China has solidified its position as a critical market for the province that has emerged as the top Asian Export Destination in 2023 of Western Cape. The exports to China have reached an impressive R16.1 billion last year. It reflected strong demand for the high-quality products in the region and its competitive edge in international trade.

Food and Hotel China (FHC), Shanghai
The event was arranged in Shanghai on from Nov 12, 2024 to Nov 14, 2024. Nine Western Cape exporters exhibited their culinary excellence here, with completely tailored B2B matchmaking.
The event was organised in association with the Western Cape Dept Agriculture and Catalyze. The meetings held were pivotal and explored the market demands, built brand awareness and drove sales into one of the world’s largest export regions.
ProWine China 2024, Shanghai
Western Cape Department Agriculture and Standard Bank Group in partnership with Wines of South Africa organised ProWine China 2024 from Nov 12, 2024 to Nov 14, 2024 in Shanghai.
At the event, Wesgro supported 12 Western Cape Wineries and the Chenin Blanc Association. It hosted a masterclass with key Chinese buyers, retailers and distributors. It was a proud moment to spotlight the globally celebrated Chenin Blanc and also to strengthen the presence of South Africa in the vital market.
Cosmopack Asia 2024, Hong Kong
The Cosmopack Asia 2024 was organised in Hong Kong from Nov 12, 2024 to Nov 14, 2024. At the event, seven Western Cape companies joined together the forces with CECOSA.
The companies showcased the natural ingredient trends in cosmetics at the premier trade exhibition, and amazed all.
Wesgro also participated in the opening ceremony and reinforced the prominent growth of South Africa in the global beauty supply chain.
