Zambia: The Zambia Chinese Association has donated an assortment of items to the Lusaka City Council to help the administration in their fight against cholera. Vice President Xu Qiong said that they hope the donation will assist the government in curbing the infection.
The value of the items has been placed at over two hundred thousand kwacha. The donation is one of the many acts of goodwill that the association has done for the benefit of the Zambian People.
Qiong stated that the current severity of cholera has become a cause for deep concern not limited only to the government.
She noted that Zambia and the Chinese community have enjoyed long traditional friendship for decades. She further noted that the issues that affect Zambia affect them, too, which makes them compelled to make a donation.
Meanwhile, Qiong explained that the association is deeply committed to Zambia’s development. They have invested in various sectors of the Zambian economy for the benefit of the people.

“The historic visit by President Hakainde Hichilema to China last year together with President Xi Jinping elated China-Zambia relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, further solidifying the connection between the hearts of the Chinese and Zambian people.
Xu Qiong stated the Chinese are committed to ensuring that it works with the government to combat cholera.
While receiving the donation, Lusaka Mayor Chilando Chitangala thanked the association and said the donated items would be distributed to cholera-prone areas.
Mayor Chitangala said the cholera hotspot communities are too widespread in various parts of the country. Additionally, the government alone cannot manage to care for the wide population.
She noted that the local authority will ensure that the donation goes to the intended beneficiaries. They will also make sure that the fight against the epidemic can be curbed.
“You are right, Zambia and China have for a long time been enjoying good relations. And we are happy that you are sympathizing with us in this trying moment. On behalf of the Zambian government, I want to say thank you. And I am assuring you that this will be used for the intended purpose’’, Ms. Chitangala stated.
The donated items include 2000 bags of chlorine worth 30,000.00 Kwacha, 2000 bags of soap worth 20,000.00 Kwacha, 50 sets of washing powder worth 20,000.00 Kwacha, 225 bottles of Sanitizer worth 50,000.00 and 30 boxes of gloves worth 100,000.00 Kwacha.
