Filabusi, Zimbabwe: An unknown suspect killed a 21-year-old young man in Filabusi over a fight in a nightclub. The incident took place on Christmas Day around 01:30 a.m.
According to the Assistant Commissioner and Police National Spokesperson – Paul Nyathi, the suspect and the victim had an argument while playing snooker at a popular nightclub in Filabusi. After the argument, the victim noted that his token was missing.
As per the report, the suspect went to his vehicle, a car Toyota Fun Cargo which was parked outside. Later on, the suspect came back with an unidentified pistol; he shot the victim once in the head and drove off.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is still investigating the murder case. Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi also confirmed, “The incident is yet to be identified, as the suspected man who shot the victim is still on the run.”
Considering the frequent increase in murder cases, President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared an amnesty on illegal firearm holders in August 2022. Apparently, the decision has stopped the gun violence in the country.
President Mnangagwa also declared an amnesty for all illegal firearm holders to voluntarily surrender themselves to their nearest police stations without any interrogation.
Reportedly, the amnesty was extended further as five hundred and thirty-eight guns were surrendered before the deadline of the amnesty.
However, cases of homicide and armed robbery have seen an increase. The cases also involve the use of unlicensed firearms and continue to be reported by the Police.
Following the news, many people have shown their rage as they are furious over the increasing rates of sudden murder cases. It is becoming hard for people to live freely in fearful surroundings.
Many people have also reacted to the incident as they found it cruel to kill someone over an argument on snooker tokens in a local nightclub.
A citizen of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Sitshela SabaKwena, compared Zimbabwe with South Africa and commented, “Zimbabwe slowly going the South Africa way in terms of murder over trivial issues.”
