Zambia Air Force commander confers with US defence advisor

Zambia Air Force Commander (ZAF), Lt Gen Oscar Msitu Nyoni, has hailed the longstanding bond between the U.S. Defence Forces and Zambia Air Force, adding that he was optimistic the relations will bring forth new opportunities and benefits for both forces now and in the future.

Zambia: Zambia Air Force Commander (ZAF), Lt Gen Oscar Msitu Nyoni, has hailed the longstanding bond between the U.S. Defence Forces and Zambia Air Force, adding that he was optimistic the relations will bring forth new opportunities and benefits for both forces now and in the future.

Lt Gen Nyoni was speaking at Air Force Headquarters Friday, 05 January 2024, when the U.S. Defense Advisor accredited to the Republic of Zambia paid a courtesy call on him at his Office.

The Air Force Commander extended sincere appreciation for the support and technical assistance pledged by the United States Government, particularly in the provision of Bell helicopters. He emphasized that this commitment went beyond mere partnership as it represented a tangible contribution to the enhancement of Zambia’s capabilities to support regional and national peace support.

Lt Gen Nyoni further highlighted the invaluable military cooperation, including various training programs and courses that Zambia Air Force personnel attended in the United States. He underscored the significance of these initiatives in fostering professional development and strengthening the bonds of friendship and collaboration between the two Forces.

The Air Force Commander thanked Colonel Stibral for the visit, expressing confidence that the shared endeavours were going to contribute to the prosperity and security of both the United States and Zambia Air Forces.

In his remarks, Lt Col. Tony Stibral said he was looking forward to ongoing discussions on possible areas of continued cooperation.

The DA said there was an expected increase in offered programmes and that it was important to understand the priorities of the Air Force for effective cooperation.

He also said that he was looking forward to facilitating joint programmes and training involving all three Services of the Zambia Defence Force.

Lt Col Stibral also commended the Zambia Defence Force for the excellent track record on previous programmes saying apart from the high performance, the levels of reporting were high.
