Zambia: The police officers in the Chifunabuli District of Luapula Province have received reports of the death of a 15 year old girl from Kishikishi Village. She was a resident of Chief Mwansa Kombe’s Chiefdom and died in a road accident.
The Police force has identified the deceased as Cynthia Kapungwe, who died on the spot after the accident. Notably, she was travelling in a Mitsubishi Canter with fifteen other individuals, including the driver.
The driver, identified as McMillan Mpundu, aged 25, lost control of his vehicle and the Mitsubishi Canter (the registration number of the vehicle was ALJ 6555). The truck veered off the road and flipped, resulting in all the occupants of the vehicle getting injured.
Cynthia Kapungwe was the only one who died in the accident. District Commissioner Stanley Mukosa confirmed the incident and shared some details about the circumstances.
According to Mukosa, the incident happened on December 6, 2023 around 08:00 AM hours at Mubenshi Village in Chief Mwansa Kombe’s area. The vehicle was about 2 kilometres away from Mwansa Kombe Rural Health Center.
He explained that the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident was a resident of Chief Mwansa Kombe’s area in Chifunabuli. He was driving along Kasaba gravel road from East to Western direction, lost control and flipped.
He said due to the impact of the crash, a juvenile passenger sustained a head fatal injury and died on the spot while other passengers were in stable condition. The driver of the vehicle has also given his statement and shared the details of the incident with the law enforcement agencies.
The District Commissioner confirmed that the body of the deceased has been deposited to Kasaba Mission Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem while the motor vehicle is still at the scene with no damages.
The passengers are currently receiving treatment for their injuries. The people of the Kishikishi Village are grieving the loss of the young and brilliant mind.
