He also added that “the government is not happy that health workers are deemed to be uncaring, and this is the scenario we want you to change as you go out there,” he said.

Meanwhile, Northern Province Health Director Ernest Mutale said 280 out of 286 newly employed health workers had already reported for duty as of midday on Monday.

“I wish to report that 98 per cent of the staff posted to the province have already reported and are ready to start working once we finish the induction.” Dr. Mutale said.

Some newly recruited health workers have thanked the Government for giving them a chance to be employed in the Civil Service.

Dr. Ethel Mutale, a Junior Resident Medical Officer at Kasama General Hospital, promised to help change the status quo in the delivery of health care in the country.

Earlier, Northern Province Permanent Secretary Bernard Mpundu expressed concern over the number of frozen positions in the province. Mpundu appealed to the Civil Service Commission to take action over the matter, as it has negatively affected government service delivery.

Civil Service Commission ordered newly recruited health workers to report their duty on Monday, January 8, and as per reports, 90% were already registered at their respective stations.

Civil Service Commission also mentioned that applicants who will not report to their stations on the stated date risk forfeiting their appointment.
