The Zambia Women’s National Netball Team, Zambia Copper Queens started their journey of the Africa Netball Cup with a bang. They faced Eswatini in their first match Yesterday, Tuesday, November 28, 2023. The match was held at the UB Indoor Sports Arena in Gaborone, Botswana.
The Zambian Copper Queens faced off with Eswatini in the first match of the tournament and successfully qualified to play against Namibia next.
In the first quarter, Zambia led by 14 goals to 10, doubling the difference at halftime to make it 33-25.
Zambian Coach Lazarus Tembo brought in 4 fresh pairs of hands in the third quarter to give every player a chance, and they did not disappoint as they increased the goal tally to 47-36.
The Zambian girls never looked back and sealed the game in the fourth and final quarter to win by 63 goals to 47.
The Team’s next face-off will be against Namibia women on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 11 am. The match will be live-streamed on Netball Zambia’s Facebook Page.
Reportedly, Namibia has recently secured victory against Zimbabwe in the second game of the tournament and took the match concluded at 45-36. The game will be based on round robin basis. The team who successfully secured the highest points will be qualified for finals.
The Zambia Copper Queens arrived in Botswana on Sunday, November 26, 2023, for the Africa Netball Cup 2023. The match is scheduled from November 2828 to December 6 6, 2023. The partcipating teams including Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania and Zimbabwe and Burundi are also heading their way to Botswana.
The tournament will be held at the University of Botswana Indoor Sports Arena.
Earlier, Zambia National Women’s Netball Team Coach Lazarus Tembo declared his Team ready for the Africa Netball Cup and shared his Team’s strategy.
He shared that the “Team is planning to launch a scathing attack on Eswatini during the first game on Tuesday at 15:00 Central African Time.”
Midcourt player Elizabeth Bwalya was confident for the Team and said that playing Eswating will bring memories of 2023 when the Copper Queens beat the Kingdom side 64-50 during the Africa Netball World Cup Qualifiers in Pretoria, South Africa.
