Zambia: The Kasama District of Zambia welcomed 14 newborn babies on Christmas day. The number of newborns in the district included eight girls. The girls were born by mid-day while six boys were born at the same time.
Kasama Mayor Theresa Kolala visited the hospitals to welcome the babies on the momentous occasion. She has encouraged new parents to raise their newborn babies responsibly.
At the same time, the Mayor asserted that the children are a gift from God. Accordingly, the parents have the responsibility of nurturing and caring for them in a Godly manner.
Meanwhile, the Mayor also said that as Christmas is a day to celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. In line with this, she observed that children born on this day also have the same attachment to this special day.
The Mayor visited various health facilities in Kasama district to gift the newly born babies with baby hampers. The administrator shared that she was delighted to visit the hospitals and celebrate Christmas with the new parents.
Christmas marked several celebratory events being hosted around the country. Many people of the Kasama District celebrated the day with their families and loved ones.
Meanwhile, the Kasama District Nursing Officer in charge of mother and child care, Paul Bwalya said Kasama District, on a monthly basis. He announced that the district had delivered about 1200. He was extremely happy to make the announcement on the occasion of Christmas.
Bwalya added that out of 1200, only 66 per cent of the children are delivered in health institutions.
He noted that it is, therefore important for women to deliver within health facilities, adding that this is going to help reduce maternal deaths.
Bwalya also commended the mayor for presenting gifts to new mothers, stating that this will also encourage other women to deliver from health facilities.
The people of the district have also congratulated the parents for the birth of the children.
