Zambia: Zambia Minister of Justice Mulambo Haimbe has urged lawyers in the country to embrace digital transformation. They launched the digital transformation agenda on Tuesday.

Haimbe said there has not been much traction in the digitalization of judicial justice, saying there is an urgent need for lawyers to embrace Information Communication Technology (ICT).

As per the media reports Justice Minister of Zambia also gave a speech in which he read on his behalf by Solicitor General Marshall Muchende State Council during the official opening of the Electronic Lawyers Mail Box Workshop in Lusaka funded by the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation.

Haimbe noted that once lawyers become receptive to digitalization, it will help enhance service delivery.

Furthermore, Minister Haimbe added that once ICT is embraced, matters to do with delays in implementing some cases will also be addressed.

“I must state here that the electronic lawyer’s mail box will not at any time take away jobs for the marshals no. This is a system that will enhance the efficiency of our marshals because they will be able to upload and download different documents and communicate efficiently with the lawyers,” Haimbe explained.

Minister Haimbe also encouraged lawyers to take advantage of synergies and partners like the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation, which is committed to ensuring.

Meanwhile, German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) Deputy Head of Section Africa Sonya Ouertani said German is pleased to help Zambian lawyers transform digitally.

Quertani noted that the electronic mail box is an instrumental and transparent tool that will enhance communication not only in the judicial system but also for its citizens.

“I would like to congratulate Zambia for this step towards embracing digital transformation for the legal personnel in the country,” Quertani stated.

Moreover, Lawyers are happy with the decision of the Government and appreciate the initiative. One of the senior and renowned lawyers of Zambia said, “This is something we appreciate and have wanted for a long time.”
