Zambia: Department of Community Safety MEC MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae is on the ground again on the N1 Northbound near the Traffic Park home on Tuesday to check road activities.
The motive of the Tuesday Operation was on vehicle road worthiness, compliance, and drunken driving, as many people are on the road driving back home from various destinations after New Year’s Day.
Traffic volume increased incredibly on the north bound of Verkeerdevlei Plaza (Bloemfontein to Windburg) after 11:00 from 277 vehicles per hour to 922 vehicles per hour around 14:00.
MEC Letsoha-Mathae Advises Motorists to be patient during traffic congestion. The N1vein that runs through the Free State is a zero tolerant zone for lawlessness. Every normal vehicle, taxi, truck or bus that is not compliant will not go through the Free State Province.
As per the update, in Tuesday’s operation, the impoundment of 23 vehicles and 57 traffic cases from an average of 330 vehicles stopped.
This operation brought lawlessness to the book. Commuters of motor vehicles that were not compliant with the law were unfortunately affected by replications of the violation of the rules of the road by operators/owners of vehicles.
During the operation, MEC Letsoha-Mathae interacted with road users, reiterated the importance of respecting the rules of the road and wished them a safe 2024.
Residents appreciate the action of MEC; people are saying that it’s rare to see some Ministry come on the road to check on you is rare to see.
“Good to reiterate the importance of respecting the rules of the road mec to the motorists,” said one of the local users.
One of the other locals, Gerald Monnapule, also said, “We are really inspired by your hands-on approach and energy. MEC. Keep up the good work. Your Facebook page team is doing an outstanding job.”
“I’m really inspired by the work you’re doing. Keep on keeping on MEC Mathae,” said another user.
