Zambia: The family of Prisca Liambela have expressed their appreciation on the Livingstone Notice Board Facebook page, thanking the Zambia (ZAF) Livingstone Clinic medical staff for assisting their niece, Prisca, during what they described as a difficult labour process.
According to the family, Prisca was taken to the ZAF Livingstone Clinic on Thursday, and her labour was progressing well. However, around 05hrs on Friday morning, Prisca had not delivered despite being fully dilated.
The family reports that Cpl Chibuye Esther and F/sgt Sichamba Davies kept checking on Prisca throughout the night until they discovered that the umbilical cord had tied around the baby’s neck, delaying the delivery.
The duo immediately prepared Prisca for referral to the Livingstone General Hospital. However, unfortunately, or fortunately, the head of the baby came whilst in the ambulance, but the body was still failing to come out due to the cord around the neck.
Working together, Cpl Chibwe and F/Sgt Siachamba quickly swang into action and cut off the cord, safely delivering the baby.
By the time baby and mother had reached the hospital, everything was already done in the fast moving ambulance. The family expressed appreciation, saying they do not take the work done under difficult circumstances to assist Prisca for granted.
“Thank you, ZAF clinic staff; thank you, madam Chibuye and Mr Sichamba; thank you, the ambulance driver. I hope they get to see this message. The baby is very well, the mother is very well too, and they are safely at home,” reports Prisca Liambelas’s family.
