Zambia: As part of the build-up for the 2023 FIFA Women’s FIFA World Cup, where the Copper Queens will be part of the 32 participants, the Zambians in Aotearoa Association (New Zealand) are already laying the groundwork for the biggest showpiece in the women’s game.

Zambians in Aotearoa Association president Dr Mununga Mwandila visited Football House and conferred with Head of Finance Owens Buntele. Mwandila says the Zambian community in New Zealand was mobilizing itself to welcome the team when it arrived for the tournament.

He says that the association had opened a dedicated platform to provide information for fans in New Zealand and those wishing to travel from outside to support the Copper Queens.

“We have a dedicated platform to provide information for the upcoming event; there is information about visas for those intending to travel, purchase of tickets, accommodation and transport,” says Mwandila.

He says the Zambian community was collaborating with the local authorities in Hamilton, where the Copper Queens will be based for the tournament.

Mwandila says the KoPa replicas were being made available to the Zambian community through pre-orders to ensure that the appearance of the fan resonated with the team.

And Buntele, who stood in for FAZ acting general secretary Iva Lengwe says FAZ was grateful that the Zambians based in New Zealand had taken a proactive stance to ensure that the Copper Queens felt at home in Hamilton and Auckland during the world cup.

Buntele says FAZ would collaborate with the Zambians based in New Zealand to ensure that the Copper Queens got maximum support during the tournament.

The Copper Queens are in Group C alongside Spain, Japan and Costa Rica for the FIFA World Cup.

Zambia will open its account against Japan on July 22 at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton before facing Spain four days later at Eden Park Stadium in Auckland. The final Group C match will be against Costa Rica at Waikato Stadium on July 31. Zambia will be based in Hamilton for the tournament.

FAZ has organized an international camp for the Copper Queens in June preceding the FIFA World Cup, where they will play Ireland and Germany, among other matches.
