Zimbabwe: Dynamos FC are all set to use Orlando Stadium as their home during the upcoming edition of CAF Confederations Cup against ZESCO United FC of Zambia.
Reportedly, the Glamour Boys of Zimbabwe will be representing the country in the second-tier of African inter-club competition. Whereas, the reigning champions Ngezi Platinum Stars will be competing in the CAF Champions League’s 2024-25 edition.
Due to lack of approved stadiums by the officials of CAF (Confederation of African Football) in Zimbabwe, both the teams will face crisis.
The team will play home matches outside of Zimbabwe, just like The Warriors, who played home away from home during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
As per the sources, Warriors used the Soweto based facility on June 07, 2024 in a match, where they lost 2-0 at to Lesotho.
However, Dynamos have resolved to hire Orlando Stadium for their first preliminary round tie against ZESCO United of Zambia. The CAF Confed matches are slated to be observed from August 17, 2024 to August 24, 2024.
CEO of the Club – Moses Maunganidze confirmed their decision to settle for Orlando Stadium and said that the decision was influenced by how Zimbabwe received support during the World Cup Qualifiers.
He mentioned that Orlando Stadium will be advantageous to them, as Dynamos. He assured that they know there are a lot of Zimbabweans who love to watch Dynamos in action and are based in South Africa.
“We have communicated with the parent body, which is ZIFA, who are also handling the logistics now. Given that we will be hosting ZESCO on a weekend, we hope to see thousands of Zimbabweans based in South Africa making their way to watch us play,” declared the CEO.
Maunganidze further added to his statement that they will feel very much at home if they create the right vibe for the matchday, especially against ZESCO. “We are saying that our first preference is the Orlando Stadium and that is on top of our list,” said Moses.
“But if we had not been lined-up against the Zambian team, then who knows, we could have settled for the National Heroes Stadium, which is in Lusaka,” said CEO of the Club.
“Considerably, the Zambian capital is geographically closer to Harare than any other capital in the SADC region. Still, as a contingent measure, we have slotted ourselves in both approved stadiums in Zambia. Which are the National Heroes Stadium and Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, as well as one stadium each in Botswana. And Mozambique, if by chance we fail to secure Orlando Stadium or FNB Stadium,” explained Maunganidze.
