Zimbabwe: The Zimpapers TV Network has announced about the Social Prime Tournament on Tuesday, Feb 13, 2024. The Social Prime Tournament is going to organize football matches that will begin from Saturday, Feb 24, 2024.
The selected venue for the soccer tournament is RBZ Sports Club that will kick-off from 9:00 AM on the selected day.
The football tournament is sponsored by Zimbabwe Newspapers, ZIMRA, Toobs FC, Panjap Motors FC and SRM Sperb Riches (Pvt) Ltd.
The Social Prime Tournament explained the theme of this year’s tournament as Our Football in three different languages, Shona, Zulu and English as “Bhora Redu…Ibhola Lethu…Our Football”.
Social Prime Tournament is a charity football game that is organized by ZTN Prime annually. Last year also the CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League teams Herentals and Simba Bhora battled against each other in the main match of the ZTN Prime Charity football tournament at Old Mutual Sports Club.
In 2023, twelve social football clubs battled for glory and proceeded for the matches that were broadcasted live on ZTN Prime. The charity football tournament was organized to support Kapota School for the Blind.
The charity was raised as the centre in Masvingo lost its principal and his deputy in a car accident in Dec 2022. Touched by the plight of the survivors, ZTN Prime decided to hold a football tournament.
The twelve social football teams were then divided into two pools, with the top two leading to the semi-finals. The final game then was played between Herentals and Simba Bhora.
Media partners such as Zimpapers and Star FM also participated in the charity tournament with their ‘friendly rivalry’ that was set to lighten up the event.
The interesting part is that some players who were traditionally playing for Zimpapers FC have decided to represent Star FM.
Despite being a part of the Zimpapers Group, Star FM decided to field a separate team in the tournament with some former players of CAPS United captain David Sengu.
After the last year’s tournament Social Prime Tournament is holding the charity match now on Feb 24, 2024.
