44th Ordinary SADC Summit to held on August 17

Zimbabwe: The security cluster has vowed to crack down on any lawlessness ahead of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit. The 44th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government will take place on August 17, 2024, at Harare.

According to the Minister of Police of Zimbabwe – Kazembe Kazembe is aware of secret meetings inside and outside the country. He added that police ministry would not hesitate to act swiftly or quickly, against those who stage demonstrations in the country.

Minister Kazembe said that the meetings in question aims at destabilizing the administration of the country. He added, “Let me categorically, we already know the personalities and the institutions.”

SADC 44th Ordinary Summit

Reportedly, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will hold the 44th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government in Harare on August 17, 2024.

The summit will be held under the theme ‘Promoting Innovation to Unlock Opportunities for Sustained Economic Growth and Development towards an Industrialised SADC.’ The theme calls for the region to collectively harness science, technology and innovation to support the modernisation and industrialisation of the SADC region.

During the 44th SADC Summit, President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa will take over the chairpersonship of SADC from President of Angola – Mr. Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco.

Considering some of the key issues, the 44th SADC Summit will receive the report of the Chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defense and Security Co-operation. They will review the progress on the implementation of the priorities of the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020-30.

At the Summit, they will also receive the update of the Food Security and the Impact of the El Nino-Induced Drought and floods in SADC Region. The 44th Summit will also include a progress on the implementation of the 43rd SADC Summit Theme which is ‘Human and Financial Capital: The Key Drivers for Sustainable Industrialisation in the SADC Region.’

Notably, the SADC Summit is responsible for the overall policy direction and control of functions of the Community, ultimately making it the policy-making institution of SADC. The Ordinary SADC Summit is held every year and is attended by the Heads of State and Government from the SADC Member States.

Moreover, Opening and Closing of the ceremonies of the 44th SADC Summit will be broadcasted live on August 17, 2024 by the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC).
