Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, in conjunction with Botswana National Archives and Records Services(BNARS), held a press briefing yesterday at Cresta Lodge. The purpose of the Press Conference was to share with the media fraternity on the upcoming Annual Records Management Conference.
The press briefing was addressed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, Mr Kagiso Kitso Kemoeng.
Speaking at the press conference, Kemoeng said this year’s Archives and Records Management is observed under the theme “Archives and Records;enriching knowledge societies.”
He further stated that as per the National Archives and Record Service Act of 1978, ammended in 2007, BNARS has been authorised to collect, preserve and facilitate access to the nation’s documentary heritage and provide direction in the management of public sector records by developing standard procedures and providing professional council and guidance.
Moreover, this is to ensure that fundamental areas that immensely contribute to good corporate governance, accountability, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law.
Kemoeng stressed that the World is transitioning into the Fourth Industrial Revolutio through Information Communication Technology (ICT) to drive their economies and improve service delivery. Therefore, this is a testament to the idea that Botswana can not be left legging behind.
This is ensured by the Reset Agent proclaimed by His Exellency, the President of the Republic of Botswana Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi.
Amongst other key ideas is digitalization. This initiative is to ensure proper or efficient information accessibility which is vital to the decision-making process by all.
BNARS will host this conference mainly to build efficiency in the management of public sector records.The upcoming conference will be held on the 30th of November to 1st December 2023 in Gaborone.
