Kenya, Mbale: The three homes of Uganda’s High commissioner to Kenya and Seychelles, Dr Amb. Hassan Galiwango, at about 7:00 am yesterday, was engulfed in a sombre mood following the news of his death on Monday morning in Nairobi while undergoing treatment.
The director of finance and administration at the NRM Secretariat late, Dr Hassan Galiwango, has been described as a man who was dedicated to his work.
Mbale district kadhi Issa Pole Masaba told Bugisu intellectual that they received calls about the death of Galiwango with shock.
Masaba described Dr Galiwango as a brilliant and balanced NRM cadre, Senior Muslim, academic and politician who contributed to the development of the region.
“We, as the Muslim community we, are going to miss him because he had a giving hand other than the receiving hand”, he added.
Sheikh Abubakar Makombe Mbale City sheikh Twale described Galiwango as a very intelligent and committed leader whom the Nation is going to miss, adding that Galiwango has been supporting hundreds of needy children by giving them bursaries in his two schools of Mbale progressive located in Mbale City.
He also said that Galiwango has been behind the construction of Shs6b Nakaloke centre mosque in Mbale City.
He said that Galiwango started serving Muslims under the Mbale youth Muslim club, adding that during that time, he helped the Muslim community to mobilize the youth to convert to Islam, and those who were already Muslims got stronger into the religion.
“It is shocking news and a great loss to this Nation. Galiwango had a big heart of giving and supporting communities as far as social services and education of the disadvantaged children,” Lutu Wandera Imam at Masjid Noor said.
Wandera said, “The news of the untimely death of Dr Galiwango has hit us at the hardest moment. He was developmental and never at any time involved himself in conflicts. He spoke and fulfilled his pledges. We shall miss him.”
Umar Muzi, a resident of Namatala in Mbale City, told Bugisu intellectual that he could not believe Dr Galiwango had died, adding he has lost a friend, mentor, funder, father and giver who does not expect returns. May his soul rest in peace,” Muzi said.
“Galiwango has died with little wealth in him, but much of his wealth has been given to communities in the form of donations, Charity. Hundreds of children have passed through his hands. He had a generous heart,” he said.
Mbale NRM chairperson Muhamud Masaaba said: “We have lost an important and instrumental person in the politics of Bugisu region. He was our potential, unifying factor, peace-loving man, developmental who did not believe in revenge even if you wronged him.
While in an interview with Bugisu, intellectual Muhammad said, “Late Dr Galiwango has been the only one with the highest ranking office in this govt as Uganda’s High commissioner to Kenya and Seychelles.”
Mbale city mayor Cassim Namugali told Bugisu intellectual forum that it’s very difficult to describe Dr Galiwango’s deeds, but he has been down to earth. Additionally, he has been helping many orphans; widows build mosques, among others.
