South Africa: Reaction Unit of South Africa is looking for a suspect allegedly involved in an armed robbery in Southridge KZN. T
he suspect, whose identity has not been confirmed, held a resident of Southridge, Verulam, at gunpoint. The incident happened on Wednesday.
He took the victim’s Samsung A Series mobile phone while holding him at gunpoint. He later fled the scene into a thick, bushy area. Further investigation from the RUSA revealed that the suspect is a South African male.
He is believed to be responsible for a spate of Armed Robberies in the area. The identity of the suspect remains unclear. Meanwhile, the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
The victim has been identified as a 31-year-old male who contacted the Reaction Unit at approximately 16:36 Hours on Wednesday.
The unit dispatched a team of officers who interviewed the victim, trying to get the circumstances of the armed robbery.
The victim informed the team that He returned from work and parked in front of his home in the afternoon. His wife alighted the vehicle and was manually opening the driveway gate. This was when the suspect approached him and produced a firearm, scaring the victim.
The victim further informed the authorities that The robber was attired in a blue shirt and a blue cap. He had a black bag in his possession when he approached the victim.
The people of Kwazulu-Natal believe that the robberies have turned into an epidemic. One social media user, Sagran Govender offered the following views.
He said: “I am now convinced that the only way to deal with this epidemic is to have metal cages placed in all suburbs in Verulam.”
He added that, “Those caught in acts of crime or are brought in for questioning are held for a day or two without any meals or abolitions can be paraded in full public view!”
One user shared that the reason for the increase in crime is the prevalence of individuals possessing unlicensed and illegal weapons.
