Zambia: The central province education office revealed that 620 new teachers have reported for deployment in the Province. The authorities believe that the number represents over 90 percent success regarding the teacher’s recruitment drive.
Provincial Education Officer (PEO), Mambe Hamududu shared the details in an interview with the media in Kabw. He added that 383 of the total teachers who reported are newly recruited teachers. The total number of new recruitments is 419.
Further, the official also shared a clarification and detailed breakdown on the numbers in the media interaction.
Provincial Education Officer Hamududu explained that 237 are under the replacement category out of the total of 260 teachers.
The PEO said the figures were as of Friday 17:00 hours last week and expected that they would go up by the end of business today.
Further, PEO Hamududu has cautioned education authorities in districts to ensure that teachers go to the schools they have been sent to.
“My caution to the District Education Board Secretaries is that, they adhere to the Permanent Secretary’s directive that all teachers should report to schools they have been sent,” Ms Hamududu said.
She said in case of any anomaly, the issue must be brought to the attention of her office and it will be referred to the Permanent Secretary.
She warned that she would not entertain any artificial complications adding that currently, the new teachers were filing in the necessary documents and they are fit.
“I don’t want the complications because the teachers are currently filing in the necessary documents without any problems and are eager to report to their various schools. I will not take kindly flimsy excuses of ill health just after a few credit-hours of service,” she said.
The people of the country are extremely happy about the success of the teachers’ recruitment drive. Many of the beneficiaries who have received their appointment letters and deployed to various parts of the country have been waiting for the letters for over ten years.
