Zambia: The Kalama Ward Councilor, Edson Muluma has called on the public not to politicize the hunger crisis. The country is facing food shortages in several parts of the country due to the lack of rain in the country.
The government of the country is working hard to find a solution for the food shortage situation. The country is going through a failed farming season as many crops were destroyed in the drought.
The Kalama Ward Councilor acknowledged that the situation is extremely delicate and that people should not use it for personal gains. The country’s people have called on the government to ensure that they are supported in this difficult time.
Muluma expressed his concern on the situation through the media. He claimed that trying to gain political support through divisive messages at a time like this is wrong. On the flip side, the ward councillor has called on people to work together to find a solution to the problem.
He claimed that politicizing the issues would cause discontent among the people and worsen the situation. Accordingly, Edson Muluma called on traditional leaders, non-governmental organizations, and other concerned people to work together to curb hunger across Zambia.
Chief Ufwenuka’s Representative in Monze District, Robert Milambo also expressed his concern on government action on the issue. He claimed that the Chiefdom has not yet started receiving relief food. However, he claimed that the names of locals who are set to benefit from the mealie meal initiative have been noted.
Milambo talked about the chiefdom administration’s actions to address the hunger crisis. According to him, the members of the community hosted a meeting where they shared that they are waiting for communication from the administration.
Chief Ufwenuka’s Representative claimed that the community is in dire need of support from the government.
President Hakainde Hichilema declared drought as a national disaster for the country on February 29. He stated that during the time of emergency the resources must be redirected towards relief services.
