Botswana: Permanent Secretary Elizabeth Bonolo Khumotaka recently met the Botswana Accountancy College (BAC)’s executive management. PS Elizabeth in the Ministry of Education and Skill Development is dedicatedly working on including all educational institutions in the development capacity of the country.
The meet and greet session with the management of BAC was hosted on Wednesday. The officials have shared the glimpses from the event on their social media. The Permanent Secretary took the opportunity to share the motivation for hosting the meeting.
She shared that she wanted to understand what each institution does, as well as their challenges, achievements, and opportunities. She claimed that the initiative will also help her in coming up with the roadmap going forward.
According to the reports, Permanent Secretary Elizabeth Bonolo Khumotaka joined the Ministry of Education on March 1. Ever since her appointment, she has been conducting similar meetings with the ministry stakeholders.
During her meeting with the high-level management of Botswana Accountancy College, she acknowledged that the ministry is huge. The organizations are faced with several issues which can not be managed alone.
Accordingly, Permanent Secretary Elizabeth noted that she is going to need everyone to come on board and be part of the team. She reasoned that this way they can work towards improving the country’s education sector at all levels.
The Permanent Secretary further encouraged BAC staff to explore utilization of the Research Fund from MCKT to close existing gaps in the economy. She also encouraged the college to have more initiatives that can assist them bring more funds.
According to the Ministry of Education, the Permanent Secretary said this will help show their commitment towards being an independent institution.
For her part, the Executive Director of BAC, Serty Leburu appreciated the permanent secretary for visiting the college. She also appreciated the support they have been getting from the Ministry over the years.
She said that as an institution, they have had many achievements and challenges, but they always work hard, especially with the support of the relevant stakeholders, to address those challenges.
Leburu said BAC was ready to support in anyway the Ministry needs their support. She said her team, which is always ready to offer any assistance needed by the Ministry will act on the advice given by the Permanent Secretary for the benefit of the institution.
