Malawi: The administration of Dedza District has called on the women of the country to make efforts to become economically strong. The women must improve on their skills so that they can get access to better livelihood opportunities.
The district administration claimed that the empowerment of the women will play an important role in achieving the Malawi 2063 Agenda. The agenda includes a list of targets which the government is working towards, during the 40 year period starting from 2023.
The district leadership hosted an event commemorating International Women’s Day on Wednesday. The event was hosted by the district council in collaboration with the gender office of the district. The leadership urged the women of the country to work towards becoming self sufficient.
More than 100 women participated in the initiative which was hosted under the theme, “Invest in women, accelerate progress.” During the event, women shared the various issues that they are facing with the aim of coming up with solutions for the same.
Presidential Advisor on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Martha Kwataine attended the event as a guest of honor. She called on the people of the country to invest in better opportunities for women.
Mphatso Banda, one of the attendants of the initiative claimed that the women in the district are working together to make their lives better. She also said that they would support the administration of the country in achieving the Malawi 2063 agenda.
She also called on the women of the region to work together to uplift their lives. She appreciated the district council and gender department for organizing the event.
According to the representative of the Dedza Business Women Association, the event is a good platform to come together. They can discuss the issues they are facing. They can also discuss their business ideas with their peers.
The Dedza Business Women Association Is working hard to come up with initiatives to help in developing Malawi. The District Gender Officer Lisnet Dauya was also happy with the initiative.
She noted that the initiative gave the women an opportunity to showcase the efforts that they make for the communities. The official further asserted that it is important for the empowered women to come together and speak up.
