Zimbabwe: The Women’s Cricket Team has safely arrived in the United Arab Emirates for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, which will begin on Thursday, April 25, 2024. The women’s team will spend few days in Dubai before travelling to Abu Dhabi.
There will be total 10 teams which will be participating in the cricket World Cup Qualifiers. Out of those teams, Zimbabwe is placed in Group-B which also considers the teams of Netherlands, Ireland, the UAE and Vanuatu.
Earlier, the Zimbabwe Cricket has officially announced the Zimbabwe Women Squad which will play in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on 25th April at UAE.
Zimbabwe has officially announced their squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Abu Dhabi. The squad is a team of cricketers, Marry-Anne Musonda, Jospehine Nkomo, Kelis Ndhlovu, Sharne Mayers, Precious Marange, Modester Mupachikwa, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Loreen Tshuma, Audrey Mazvishaya, Ashley Ndiraya, Nomvelo Sibanda, Chiyedza Dhururu, Pellagia Mujaji, Lindokuhle, Mabhera and Francisca Chipare.
The top two teams from each group will be advanced to semi-finals and the two finalists will qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh which is scheduled to take place in September and October later in 2024.
The top-order follows the batter Ashley Ndiraya who will make a welcome return to the fold after an injury where she suffered during Ireland Women’s tour that forced her to miss a training camp in India.
The training camp was a gold-winning campaign at the 13th African Games in Ghana as well as the home series against Papua New Guinea Women.
The spinner Loryn Phiri and Seam Bowler Kudzai Chigora were also a part of the squad that earlier faced Papua New Guinea Women’s team.
The Africa will have two representatives, Zimbabwe and Uganda, for the first time. The representatives will represent the nations at the global qualifying tournament that will see the top two teams. The teams will secure their places at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 which is set to be staged in Bangladesh in September.
Notably, the eight teams will host the already selected main showpiece. The top six teams qualified at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup are Australia, England, India, South Africa, New Zealand and the West Indies.
