Botswana: Neo Jane Masisi, the First lady of Botswana launched the Komowanko Life Coaching Center. The launch of the life coaching center was hosted in Rakops on Wednesday with several government officials in attendants.
She explained that the Life Coaching center was built with a vision to be a one stop shop centre. The aim of the center was to provide a platform where one can get empowered on life skills.
She urged Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to provide the promised valuable resources of lay counsellors. The support of the Ministry will help councillors to get the skills to be life coaches in its totality as elders in the village.
First Lady explained that the Life Coaching Center was conceived during her campaign for Gender Based Violence on women and children in 2021. She revealed that the campaign helped her in realizing that Gender Based Violence directly and indirectly affects families
As a result and her advocacy, the government had increased resources to fight GBV in the nation. Botswana Police Service and the government have embraced the motto of “Leave no one behind”.
This according to the officials was a commitment by international organisation and the country in its Vision 2036.
She was happy to be a part of the engagements with different targeted groups to identify their role in the fight against GBV. First Lady Neo Jane Masisi said she is getting feedback of different GBV initiatives underway across the country.
According to the First Lady, the Life Coaching Center is about changed mindsets. She also applauded Bahumagadi Ba Boteti for targeting Dikgosi leadership with awareness regarding GBV.
The Bahumagadi Ba Boteti organized under the theme, “Re Feela Malapa” powered by Men Sector and Lucara and District social workers. The aim of the organization with the objective to clean up their own houses first and make sure that they have common understanding on issues of GBV.
She further thanked the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) representatives for having found time to visit the country to appreciate the work done with their assistance. She said their support allowed her to transverse the country advocating against GBV.
The first lady of Botswana said that the center will have Wifi and an Internet Cafe to allow for increased knowledge and assistance to the youth. She also urged MLGRD to find networking opportunities either with government departments or NGOs that can help empower the women in financial literacy amongst other issues.
