Kenya Forest Service has entered into a collaboration with the Cape Media Limited to work towards environmental conservation

Kenya: Kenya Forest Service has entered into a collaboration with the Cape Media Limited to work towards environmental conservation. The two organizations have signed a Framework of Collaboration at Mt. Kenya University, Kiambu County.

The signing of the collaboration documentation was done on Friday with several members from both organizations in attendance. Thee officials have shared that it is important for the other organizations to extend their support to KFS in their mandate of preserving the environment

Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko was present at the signing on behalf of the Kenya Forest Service. Meanwhile Cape Media CEO Mwenda Njoka represented his own organization at the Mt. Kenya University.

The two organizations want to promote environmental conservation through media publicity and campaigns.

The two organizations want to promote tree growing using the power of media in their goal. They have promised to use the strengths of both organizations to achieve this mandate.

The partnership will focus on public sensitization to raise awareness about the importance of tree planting and landscape restoration.

CCF Lemarkoko announced that he was happy and satisfied with the partnership, stating, “It’s pleasant when two organizations with completely different mandates come together to protect the current and future status of our country and its ecosystems. This collaboration goes beyond tree planting. It’s about ensuring these trees grow to maturity and keeping the country informed of our progress.”

Njoka, representing Cape Media, which manages TV 47 and Radio 47, said that it is important to change the narrative to show that media can promote positivity. He pledged to work towards the ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.

On Friday, they signed a Memorandum of Understanding between KFS and Cape Media. Additionally, they also planted of over 300 indigenous tree seedlings at a rehabilitated quarry site.

The event was also attended by several officials from both the organizations, including:

  • Evans Mutari, Administration Secretary at the State Department of Forestry
  • Esther Keige, Head of Legal Services
  • George Abuto, Regional Forest Conservator for Central Highlands,
  • County Forest Conservator Kiambu Peter  Ng’ang’a
  • Staff members from KFS & Cape Media.
