Botswana: The Minister of Minerals and Energy, Lefoko Maxwell Moagi has applauded Debswana Diamond Company. The organizations and its partners have helped citizen companies to take centre stage in the importation of petroleum products into the country.
This has helped in localising value creation for the nation and its local businesses. Botswana is a major contributor to the development of the country in several sectors. The officials have shared that the organization has extended their support to several sectors of the nation’s economy.
The company’s support has been invaluable not only in diamond mining, but sports, Olympics, education and business sector. The Minister was addressing attendants at an event hosted by Botswana Oil Limited on Thursday.
During this event, the Minister Lefoko Maxwell appreciated the contributions made by the Debswana Diamond Company. Notably, Botswana Oil Limited hosted the gathering to mark the historic transformation of the petroleum industry of Botswana.
This was madee possible through the implementation of the 90% Import Mandate executed by the company on behalf of the Government of Botswana.
The Minister of Minerals and Energy recalled that in 2022, Botswana Oil Limited and Debswana Diamond Company collaborated for the CEEP partnership. He highlighted that their partnership has helped four citizen transporters to deliver petroleum products to mines across Botswana. Over a period of five years, they have transported P8 Billion worth of petroleum products to the mines.
The transporters who have bnefit from the collaboration are:
- API
- Filano
- Sky Bridge
These companies have completed the Sasol Transporters accreditation process. The process allows them to uplift petroleum products from Sasol and to deliver to Botswana and countries within the Southern African region.
Debswana Supplier and Enterprise Development Manager, Lere Matebesi also participated in a panel discussion during the event. The discussed was focusing on ‘Collaborative Strategies and Partnerships, Empowering Citizen-Owned Companies’.
He spoke on the importance of collaboration, citing that the coming together of Debswana, Botswana Oil and commercial banks for the CEEP has been instrumental in enabling the milestones that are being celebrated in the fuel industry.
