Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that 2024 Festive Lights Switch-on is about more than just lights. It’s about the people of Cape Town.

Smith said, “Our people are people of hope and express themselves through humour that shines through the heart of Cape Town.”

He expressed that there’s something magical about laughing together, which is a shared experience. “As Capetonians we know how to have a good time, I’m keen to celebrate the talents that make the city so special and meet all on the Grand Parade for a good chuckle and some excellent entertainment,” said JP Smith.

To enter, participants must submit a one-minute stand-up comedy video, that creatively reflects the theme ‘People of Hope.’ The videos must be original, family-friendly and should not contain any offensive content or political and religious themes – that are just good and clean fun.

Entries must be submitted via social media platforms only such as Facebook, Instagram, Tik-Tok or X. It’s not necessary to submit the entry on all platforms, but it is important for the entrants to tag the official Cape Town Festive Lights account @CTFestiveLights and use the hashtags #PeopleOfHopeLaugh and #CTFestiveLights.

The entries will get closed on Friday, November 15, 2024. Out of the entries, top-10 will be selected, who will perform in a live ‘laugh-off’ at the V&A Waterfront on Saturday, November 23, 2024.

Notably, the panel of judges will include some of South Africa’s top comedian talents namely Lunga Tshuka, Angel Campey and Stuart Taylor.
