Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit visited Barbados and addressed the Annual Conference of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP), held on Sunday, October 26, 2025. He supported the Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and expressed his solidarity with the vision and ongoing leadership of the ruling party.
Reportedly, the PM Skerrit’s participation as Guest Speaker on the final day of the conference highlighted the strong ties and shared values between the two Labour Parties of Dominica and Barbados.
PM Skerrit stated that Dominica is the place where people know what it is to be tried by the storms and lifted by the labour and that’s why they understand on what terms Barbados is built. He added that they are privileged to stand before the most enduring and inspiring political institutions in the Caribbean and the Barbados Labour Party.
He referred in his address that it is a movement, that for almost nine decades has stood firmly on the side of the people steadfast in principle, courageous in leadership and visionary in purpose.
According to the Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, this conference of delegates has always been more than a formal annual gathering or rooting political meeting.
Skerrit mentioned that it is the living conscience of the Barbados Labour Party as the arena where idols take roots, where policies are shaped and where the collective will of the people gives rise to leadership that has transformed the nation and the entire Caribbean Region.
Dominica Prime Minister emphasised that it was from this very platform of Barbados that the right excellence of Grantly Herbert Adams gave voice to the struggle for social justice, equality and political enfranchisement.
Dr. Skerrit praised Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley and said that she is the best prime minister in the very long time, seen in the Caribbean. Her leadership anchored in the trust of delegates, who laid the foundation for modern democracy in Barbados and inspired a generation of Caribbean leaders to follow the path of service and reform.
He acknowledged PM Mottley and said that she has energised a new era of modernisation, efficiency, nationalism and regionalism proving that the Small Island States could lead with boldness and vision. He stated that BLP’s principles meet with the practical needs of a changing world.
Recently, Dominica and Barbados have signed an agreement to collaborate and promote their tourism products by enhancing multi-destination packages that have been offered. The partnership will mark a significant step towards deepening the regional ties and delivering greater value to the travellers.
