Dominica welcomed the new Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to Dominica – Ciro Luciano Ciliberto Infante, this week. He met with the acting Prime Minister Dr. Irving McIntyre.
Earlier, the ambassador presented credentials to the President Sylvanie Burton at a small ceremony on Wednesday, February 04, 2026. Considering the meeting, President Burton noted that despite of the difference in size, Dominica and the Argentine Republic are bound by shared principles and are rooted in respect for International Law, Multilateral Cooperation and the Peaceful Coexistence of nations.
Reportedly, the occasion highlighted the longstanding diplomatic relationship between the two nations, which was established in 1985 and continues to be grounded in mutual respect, cordiality, and shared values.
President Burton expressed gratitude for Argentina’s ongoing support through technical cooperation programmes that have benefited Dominica in several sectors, including
- health,
- tourism,
- education,
- gender affairs,
- disaster mitigation,
- agriculture, and
- film production
She also acknowledged Argentina’s 2019 visa waiver policy, which allows Dominican passport holders to enter the country without requiring a visa.
The President of Dominica emphasised the importance of strengthening partnerships among countries of the Global South, particularly in an increasingly interconnected world. She identified key areas for future collaboration, including climate resilience, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, education and training, cultural exchange, and disaster risk management.
As a small island developing state, Dominica remains highly vulnerable to climate change and environmental degradation, making international cooperation essential for building resilience and promoting sustainable development.
Ambassador Infante reaffirmed Argentina’s commitment to support Dominica’s development and deepening their bilateral relations. He highlighted the importance of initiatives that foster mutual understanding, expand opportunities for tourism and business, and deliver tangible benefits to citizens. He also stressed that diplomacy is most effective not only through agreements at the governmental level but by strengthening connections between the people, cultures, and communities of both nations.
