The City of Cape Town has selected the latest recipients of its film fund and is supporting a new slate of local productions. The City is excited to announce the beneficiaries of the 2025-26 film fund.
Reportedly, in this cycle, five productions have been selected. These productions include:

- two documentaries
- one feature film
- one short animation series
The film fund is designed to empower emerging and established filmmakers across the metro. Also, it supports original content that amplifies local voices, promotes diverse stories, and strengthens Cape Town’s position as a global film and media hub.
After an extensive evaluation process, done by the City of Cape Town, following recipients have been selected for the recognition:
- Spinners – TV Series by Backstory Films
- Aquanauts: Beneath The Surface – Documentary by Community Media Trust
- Silas en die Ysbeer op Tafelberg – Feature Film by Nagvlug Films
- Omdraai – Documentary by Kindergarten Films
- Animal Therapy – Short Animation Series by Studio Bo
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith stated that they are happy to announce the second slate of productions to be funded this year. These projects will benefit from a dedicated film fund designed to spark authentic storytelling.
Through this initiative, they will receive support from the film fund created to help in bringing real and meaningful stories to life. Stories that reflect the city’s people, history, and everyday experiences.
As part of a broader effort to support and grow the creative sector, developing local skills, creating opportunities for new talent, encouraging international collaboration, and further establishing Cape Town as a top destination for film. Smith congratulated this year’s recipients and wished them every success with their projects.
Notably, the selected projects are currently being filmed across multiple locations in Cape Town, at various areas serving as backdrops to their stories. These projects are also progressing through different stages of their production.
