St. Kitts and Nevis: The Government has officially launched a new Digital Insurance Card System that will deliver faster, easier and more convenient access to healthcare benefits for approx. 8,500 public servants. The new National Caribbean Insurance (NCI) WellCare Digital Insurance Card enabled insured government employees and eligible dependents to receive care from participating providers without paying the full cost upfront or submitting re-imbursement forms.
Reportedly, the members will only pay the required co-payment at the point of service. While the remaining balance is processed instantly through NCI’s real-time digital claims platform. This modernised system represents a major step forward towards improving healthcare access, reducing administrative burdens and enhancing the overall experience for public sector workers and their families.
At present, the participating providers are available in Anguilla, St. Kitts and Nevis with additional providers that are expected to join the network as the programme expands. The launch reflects the continued commitment of the Government to digital transformation, improved public services and the well-being of its people.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew shared his remarks and stated that they delivered on a promise to make healthcare more accessible, affordable and dignified for the people. For too long, the public servants had to struggle with upfront medical costs, re-imbursement forms and unnecessary delays, that they are facing today.
He said that with the launch pf new Digital Insurance Cards, approx. 8,500 public servants can access real-time healthcare services by simply swiping their card and paying only their co-payment. During the ceremony, he earlier stated that, they believe that health care is a human right, that health care should not be a privilege of the few and well endowed, but it should be a human right.
PM Drew also reflected on the financial burdens during the ongoing ceremony, which many citizens previously faced under the traditional re-imbursement model. Here, patients often had to pay hundreds of dollars upfront before later seeking re-imbursement through manual claim submissions.
He also linked this initiative to broader reforms undertaken by his administration to improve the welfare and long-term security of public servants, including pension reforms and enhanced retirement benefits for Government Auxiliary Employees (GAEs).
