South Africa: Wesgro launched the Western Cape Export Strategy 2035 with the Western Cape Government led by Provincial Minister of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism – Dr. Ivan Meyer.
The official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape, marketing the destination at global level – Wesgro, is growing the Western Cape exports through partnership and action.
The 2035 strategy provides a practical roadmap to grow exports, create jobs and support the Western Cape Government’s #GrowthForJobs vision of building a R1 trillion, inclusive economy.
As per the sources, Cape Town and the Western Cape’s tourism, trade and investment promotion agency, Wesgro is helping the cities in turning this strategy into action. In FY26, they:
- Connected the Western Cape to global markets through 81 outward missions, 53 inward delegations and engagements across 48 countries.
- Supported 51 export declarations worth R3.7 billion, with the potential to create 1,837 direct jobs.
- Unlocked access to new markets in China, ASEAN, India, Brazil and the Middle East, while maintaining a continued focus on established markets including the EU, UK, USA and Africa.
- Also, onboarded 403 local businesses and 161 global buyers to the recently enhanced Cape Trade Portal.
- Strengthened the Made in the Cape brand, including a Mumbai campaign that generated over 1 million Cape Trade Portal hits.
- Connected 34 buyers from 17 countries with 200 Western Cape exporters through 400+ B2B meetings during the Made in the Cape Hosted Buyers’ Programme.
- Secured 47 new product listings with Reliance Retail in India and 91 listings through LuLu promotions across Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE through strengthening system-scale partnerships.
- Equipped 186 businesses through the Export Advancement Programme, with 28 of these businesses participating in trade missions to Thailand, the USA and Saudi Arabia.
Moving forward with their mission of “New markets. New buyers. More exports. More jobs.” They are helping in turning the Western Cape Export Strategy 2035 into measurable results for the province.
