Cape Town: Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth and Tourism – Alderman James Vos acknowledges the Artscape for driving tourism and economic growth through world-class performances.
Alderman Vos extended his congratulations to Artscape on the remarkable achievement of hosting more than 301,298 at their performances for the period January until December 2024. This milestone is a testament to their world-class productions and the exceptional talent that bring these performances to life.
Recalling the history, it was established on May 19, 1971 at the Nico Malan Theatre Centre. Artscape has been a cornerstone of Cape Town’s cultural landscape for over five decades. It was originally managed by the Cape Performing Arts Board (CAPAB) and it was renamed as Artscape in March 2001 to reflect a more inclusive and diverse artistic vision.
Moreover, status of Cape Town as a leading global destination is defined not only by its natural beauty but also by its vibrant cultural and creative offerings. However, Artscape plays a critical role in showcasing the depth of the artistic heritage of the city, making it a sought-after attraction for locals and visitors from around the world.
Additionally, Artscape is a cultural impact and drives economic growth. It creates opportunities for performers, production crews and entrepreneurs in the creative sector.
