City of Cape Town is ready to host a series of community concerts and Opera Blocks performances in the month of April. The Community, Arts and Culture Development Department will spread the magic of opera directly to the neighbourhoods of city in association with Cape Town Opera.
As per the sources, in April the series of community concerts will be held, titled as ‘Opera in Your Neighbourhood’. The concert will bring the world-class opera performances directly to the doorstep of the residents and Opera Blocks interactive performances.
Reportedly, it has created an opportunity for parents and youngsters of five years old who will experience the magic of music and theatre.
Notably, the musical play sessions will be for parents and caregivers as they can bring babies and young children to sing, dance, play and have fun. They will get to experience the benefits of classical music at the early stage of development.
A schedule has been designed, completely dedicated to the Opera in Your Neighbourhood performances by the Cape Town Opera Chorus.
The very first concert will be held on April 22, 2024 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Edgemead community hall in the Cape Town. The second concert will be observed on April 23, 2024 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Blouberg community hall.
On April 24, 2024, the third concert will be held at the Durbanville town hall from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., and the fourth concert will be arranged at the Simon’s Town Civic Centre on April 25, 2024, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m.
After the Neighbourhood performances, Opera Blocks performances will take place. The first block performance will be held on April 26, 2024, at the Ocean View community hall from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and consecutively on April 27, 2024, at the same time from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Salt River town hall.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health sector, Councillor Patricia Van Der Ross said that the city is proud to partner with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and Cape Town Opera to bring the initiatives to the residents.
Councillor Ross emphasised that music is not only a unifier, but listening to it also has health benefits such as reducing anxiety and blood pressure and also improving the mood.
She expressed further that she wants to encourage the residents to join in these events, as they embrace new experiences and enjoy performances by exceptional musicians.
Music makes evryone happy and for younger children, it can help in the development of their cognitive and physical abilities, said Patricia Van Der Ross.
