Botswana: The Methodist Church of Southern Africa held a Connexional general executive committee meeting in Gaborone with Austin Abraham in attendance. The event was hosted under the theme “Awakening the Prophetic Urgency & Agency “.
The Gaborone City Council shared glimpses of the meeting on their social media account. The GCC stakeholders welcomed the representatives of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa warmly.
The gathering comprised of Methodist men from 15 Districts. Some of the church representatives hailed from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) regions such as Lesotho, Eswatini, South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique.
The Mayor of Gaborone was also present at the event and delivered a brief yet significant address during the meeting. The event was hosted on Saturday with the members of the Gaborone City Council in attendance.
Speaking during the gathering The Mayor of Gaborone, Austin Abraham said that he was grateful for Gaborone to be chosen as the host of such a gathering. City Mayor stressed that the visitors will enjoy the great sights Gaborone has to offer as well as its great history.
The Mayor and his team are working hard to make the city a remarkable tourism attraction for the people of Botswana and other regions. They have hosted several events.
The City Mayor further applauded the Methodist church for the great work they have done and encouraged them to continue to take their stand as per the 2004 Thokoza statement of faith and a pledge to stand against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
He stressed that the pledge has taken a Biblical context that all human beings are created equally and in the image of God.
Mayor of Gaborone Austin Abraham wished the Methodist Church God’s power and strength as they work in their contribution towards GBV prevention. He asserted that raising the boy child appropriately can go a long way in imparting knowledge and skills to men and boys.
He stressed that such could influence their behavioral patterns.
