Botswana introduced a new banknote. The new bill has been launched to recognise the Olympic Hero – Letsile Tebogo. He has been honoured with this huge reward by the government for winning the first-ever Gold medal for his nation.
Reportedly, Letsile Tebogo with the team won an Olympic Silver medal in Men’s 4x400m race, that is featured on the banknote.
The 50 BWP (Pula) note was announced on Friday, Sept 12, 2025 by the President of Botswana, celebrating the occasion of 50th anniversary of the bank. President Duma Boko officially made the announcement on social media and acknowledged the honour presented to the athlete.
President Boko said, 50 Years of Excellence! The Bank of Botswana unveils a new P50 note featuring Olympic Medalist Letsile Tebogo, celebrating both its Golden Jubilee and a national icon.

As per the sources, the sprinter aged 22, Tebogo’s image is printed on the left side of the currency note. His photo occupies almost half of the note, while the remaining section has the image of Botswana’s 4×400 Metre Relay Team that won a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics in France.
This is a great achievement for Tebogo. The athlete has won the first-ever gold medal for his country, at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He stormed to the first place in the men’s 200 metre final race, remaining ahead of the Americans Kenny Bednarek and Noah Lyles.
Letsile Tebogo highlighted that he also helped in anchoring the Botswana men’s 4×400 metre relay race to win the silver medal.
Furthermore, the sprinter will next compete in the 100 metre finals at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, occurring in Tokyo, Japan. But first he must qualify in the semi-final with a season’s best time of 9.94 seconds.
It is a great achievement for an athlete to be recognised with a currency note that has image printed on it. Such honour marks a significant milestone in an athlete’s life.
