Botswana launched that annual campaign of annual 16 Days of Activism Against Violence on Women and Children. The annual event is hosted with the aim of increasing awarness about the international struggle against gender-based violence.
The officials have shared some images from the event on their social media. The leaders have shared that the sixteen days of activism is a platform for the administration to spread awareness.
The 2024 edition of the commemoration is being observed under the theme “#NoExcuse. UNITE to End Violence Against Women and Children.” The stakeholders of Botswana, including the Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs, Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education and more have answered the international call to action.
The ministers and Ministry teams have already assumed action in the various communities across the island. The leaders of the community have shared that it is crucial for all members of the community to understand.
The United Nations has made the call to commemorate the sixteen days of activism in the country. Lesego Chombo, the Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs has taken the opportunity to answer this call.
The Minister of the country have shared that the members of the community should come together to fight GBV. She has called on the people of the country to make sure that the people of the community can unite.
Gender-based violence is one of the most crucial issues that the people of the community have been facing. The Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs, Chombo has shared some of the most alarming statistics in GBV.
The Minister said that more than one-third women of Botswana have reported experiences of violence. The Minister said that most of these instances beginning in childhood for the children, women and girls.
She also talked about the country’s recent legislative progress, including the Cybercrime Act which bolster protections for minors and vulnerable individuals, along with stricter penalties for sexual offenses.
The Minister has made a call for a safer society in Botswana, Chombo appealed to men, boys, and all citizens to create protective environments for women and children, stressing that a nation plagued by violence cannot thrive.
The launch was held in Medie Village in the Kweneng District.
